The Winter-Ready 2017 Ford Escape
As temperatures are already below freezing in many parts of the United States, Ford is committed to making sure its vehicles are ready for harsh winter conditions. After a number of exceptionally frigid winters, Ford deployed a team to Alberta, Canada to find out what features drivers in colder climates needed the most.
“What our customers in Canada told us is simple – ‘Heat everything!’” said Nicole Mazur or Ford Canada. “They wanted better access to some of the cold weather features Ford was already offering on its higher-series vehicles.”
Teams from a variety of cold climate locations, including Russia and Scandinavia, figured out which features were most important to Ford drivers of every region in an effort to make more technology available to more drivers. Customer clinics found that many drivers would prefer a heated steering wheel, heated mirrors and a windshield wiper de-icer as standard equipment in their next vehicle.
The 2017 Ford Escape is one of Ford’s first vehicles to have a variety of handy cold climate-ready features available. The windshield wiper de-icer can remove light snow and ice from wiper blades in under 10 minutes at -18 degrees Fahrenheit, the all-weather floor mats protect the carpet from snow, slush and mud, heated side mirrors improve visibility and a heated steering wheel and heated front seats keep everyone comfortable even in the coldest temperatures.
Additionally, Ford vehicles equipped with SYNC Connect and FordPass can be remotely started from a smartphone to warm up the vehicle before getting in.
