2016 Ford Vehicles Receive Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
The latest update to SYNC 3 for 2016 Ford vehicles is now available, bringing Android Auto and Apple CarPlay software support along with a number of other improvements. The version 2.2 update can be downloaded to a USB drive, updated automatically over a Wi-Fi connection or be installed by our service department at Five Star Ford Plano.
“Our SYNC 3 software platform was designed to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionality and security enhancements,” said Don Butler, executive director of Ford Connected Vehicle and Services.
Ford customers can visit owner.ford.com to download the update for their 2016 vehicle, or connect their SYNC 3 system to their home’s Wi-Fi network where the update will be installed automatically.
Android Auto works with Android devices running Android version 5.0 or higher, and gives easy access to Google Maps, Google Play Music, phone calls, messaging and select third-party apps on the vehicle’s built-in touchscreen. It also provides easy access to Google voice search and voice controls to minimize distraction.
Apple CarPlay is compatible with the iPhone 5 and later running at least iOS 7.1. It provides users with a simple way to make phone calls, send and receive messages, use navigation, listen to music and access Siri voice controls from the built-in touchscreen. Some vehicles may require a USB hub upgrade available through your local Ford dealer for Apple CarPlay support.
