Ford announces upcoming Ford GT supercar

Fifty years after winning first, second and third place at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford is bringing back the iconic Ford GT supercar once again. The new GT uses advanced technology including a high-performance turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine producing more than 600 horsepower, fine-tuned aerodynamics and lightweight carbon fiber construction.

The new Ford GT includes the most powerful EcoBoost engine Ford has ever produced, and is mid-mounted in the GT’s chassis for improved balance and handling. Extensive use of carbon fiber and aluminum help keep the Ford GT’s weight as low as possible, improving both acceleration and handling.

The EcoBoost V6 in the GT is based on Ford’s IMSA Daytona Prototype endurance racing powertrain, which won the prestigious 12 Hours of Sebring. The engine uses port and direct fuel injection with a low friction valvetrain. The EcoBoost V6 will be paired with a dual-clutch seven-speed transaxle that has almost instantaneous gear changes.

Fully active aerodynamics are also an important part of the new GT, with active components helping with braking, handling and stability, both on the road and on the track. The rear spoiler reacts to speed and driver input, adjusting its height and angle depending on conditions.

High performance carbon ceramic brakes are found at all four corners, along with light weight 20-inch wheels and unique Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup 2 tires. The interior of the GT is entirely driver focused, with an F1-style steering wheel and full digital and configurable instrument cluster.

The all-new Ford GT will be a technology showcase for the Ford brand, and is part of the promised 12 new Ford Performance vehicles coming by 2020, including the new F-150 Raptor and Shelby GT350R. The Ford GT is expected to go into production late next year in markets worldwide.
